Everything You Need to Know
Answers to common questions about our carpets, ordering, shipping, and care
Yes. Every single carpet we produce is 100% handmade by skilled Afghan artisans using traditional wooden looms and techniques passed down through generations. No machines are involved in any part of the weaving process. Each knot is tied by hand.
We use premium Ghazni wool from highland Afghan sheep, prized for its durability, natural luster, and ability to hold rich colors. Our dyes are 100% natural, derived from plants including madder root (red), indigo (blue), walnut hulls (brown), and pomegranate peel (yellow/gold). The foundation (warp and weft) is typically cotton or wool.
Knot count (KPSI — knots per square inch) measures the density of knots in a carpet. Higher knot counts mean finer detail, sharper patterns, and longer production time. Our carpets range from approximately 80 KPSI (coarser, tribal styles) to 300+ KPSI (ultra-fine, intricate designs).
We offer pile heights from 1mm (very low, flat-like finish) to 5mm (high, plush pile). Lower pile heights are typical for geometric and tribal patterns, while higher piles are common in classic and Mamluk designs. Custom orders allow you to specify your preferred pile height.

Vacuum regularly on a low setting (avoid beater bars), rotate the carpet every 6–12 months for even wear, have it professionally cleaned every 1–2 years, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve colors. Spills should be blotted immediately — never rub.
Yes, handmade wool carpets work well on heated floors. The natural wool provides excellent insulation. We recommend using a quality underlay to protect both the carpet and the floor.
Natural dyes actually age beautifully — developing a rich patina over decades rather than fading harshly. To minimize any color change, avoid prolonged direct sunlight and rotate your carpet periodically.
